How to Treat Back Acne

back acne facial treatment singapore

Your face is not the only area where acne can appear. Acne can appear on your back too and is commonly referred to as bacne. Our back has thicker skin and larger pores which can lead to severe and painful acne. For both men and women, back acne is very uncomfortable and is a confidence killer. Keep reading on to find out more about back acne treatment in Singapore.

What is Back Acne?

Oily skin, blackheads, whiteheads, red spots, yellow pus-filled pimples, and scars are all characteristic of acne on the back. People who are prone to acne have oil-producing glands that are particularly sensitive to some hormones.

Acne on the back is more severe than acne on other parts of the body. Because your back has a larger surface area than other parts of your body, it usually contains larger inflammatory zones. Because the skin on the back is so thick, breakouts can travel deep beneath the surface. This means that back acne treatment in Singapore requires a different approach compared to facial acne.

Causes of Back Acne

Acne, in all forms, can have multiple causes and triggers. There can also be a genetic component frequently aggravated by hormones. You may have oily or acne-prone skin on your back and shoulders if you have oily or acne-prone skin on your face.

When levels of hormones in the blood rise, the glands produce an excess of oil. At the same time, dead skin cells that are not shed properly clog up the follicles, eventually resulting in acne vulgaris, which refers to clogged pores. Bacne can also be caused by acne mechanica. This type of acne still causes clogged pores, but the irritation and inflammation induced by frequent movement, rubbing, or friction against the skin causes the pores to clog.

If your outbreaks don’t seem to be provoked by exercise or haven’t improved after therapy, it may not be acne, but the real cause could be folliculitis. Infected hair follicles can seem like acne, but they need to be treated differently.

Patients on hormonal medicines or therapy can also trigger back acne.

You may also suffer from regular back acne even if you’re not on hormone therapy and experience back breakouts regardless of the season or how much you work out. A physician can assist you in determining the real origin of your back acne. After that, you can begin an effective treatment with the correct diagnosis.

Prevention of Back Acne

Tight-fitting exercise clothing that traps sweat next to skin on the back and blocks pores may contribute to outbreaks. Do remember to always wash your clothes after sweating in them.

If your breakouts worsen in the heat, you’re probably suffering from heat rash rather than acne. So make sure you’re in a cool, dry place. However, if you work outside in the heat, make sure to shower and change clothing frequently during the day to prevent yeast from multiplying. After a sweaty workout, change your clothes and shower as quickly as possible to cleanse your skin.

Discuss with your doctor about reducing the amount of hormone therapy you’re taking if you think it’s causing the breakout. A lower dose could make a significant effect. Avoid long hair, jewellery, backpacks, and other items that can rub and irritate the skin. Always drink lots of water and maintain a healthy diet to improve your skin health.

When it comes to using skincare products or sunscreen, always look out for non-comedogenic and oil-free products that will not trigger acne. Ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and salicylic acid are all good moisturizer ingredients for acne therapy. Salicylic acid-based exfoliating body scrubs and acne-fighting body washes promote healthy skin cell turnover.

Long after the acne has resolved, bacne can leave dark marks and scars, huge cysts can cause enormous keloids (raised scars). So, don’t wait too long to treat your back acne!
