Stretch marks appear on the skin when the skin’s dermis layer stretches due to extra pressure. People who gain weight or constantly experience fluctuations in weight can have stretch marks, especially for pregnant women. From a medical standpoint, there is no foolproof way of preventing stretch marks during pregnancy. However, its appearance can be lightened or reduced with good medical stretch mark removal treatment. Keep reading to find out more.
Signs and Symptoms of Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are a common concern, especially for women. They may show up as indented streaks or lines on the abdomen, breasts, hips, buttocks or other places on the body. Those streaks may come in a diverse range of colours, for instance, pink, red, black, blue or purple. Some patients may also experience bright streaks initially which fade to a lighter colour.
When you press your fingers over stretch marks, you may feel a little ridge or indentation on your skin. Stretch marks can be irritating or painful at times. Stretch marks can occur depending on your skin type, as some people’s skin is more elastic than others.
For pregnant women, stretch marks normally appear on your abdomen, but they can also appear on your upper thighs and breasts as your pregnancy progresses and your bump grows.
Causes of Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are caused by skin stretching and an increase in cortisone levels in your body. Cortisone is a hormone that your adrenal glands normally create. Too much of this hormone, on the other hand, can cause your skin to lose suppleness.
Women may experience stretch marks during pregnancy as the skin stretches to make room for the developing baby. They may also appear when you rapidly gain or lose weight. Stretch marks are more likely to appear if you gain more weight than is normal during pregnancy. Eating a healthy diet and going for regular exercise will help to ensure slow but consistent controlled weight gain during pregnancy.
There are also certain medical conditions that are associated with stretch marks. Stretch marks can be brought about by Cushing’s disease, Marfan’s syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and other adrenal gland conditions that increase the amount of cortisone in your body.
Stretch marks can also be caused by corticosteroid creams, lotions, and pills, which reduce the skin’s ability to stretch.
Do Over the Counter Creams Work?
Some products on the market claim to fade or repair stretch marks. However, there isn’t really a “cure” for them. For some mothers, stretch marks may continue to appear even with the application of over-the-counter stretch mark reduction creams. There is limited evidence that oils or creams help prevent stretch marks from forming in the first place. They may remove the top layer, but not the underlying layers.
Of course, mothers may still proceed to apply such creams as long as it is not harmful to either mother or child, to keep their skin feeling soft and smooth. However, if you would like a clinically proven medical treatment that can truly reduce stretch marks, it’s best to seek medical help.
Stretch Mark Removal Treatment
Our doctors have designed an affordable doctor-performed targeted and focused Stretch Mark Removal Program that uses FDA-approved technology to remove stretch marks. It is appropriate for both existing and new stretch marks, and for both men and women. Stretch marks can appear in men after weight loss and commonly occurs in women post-pregnancy.
Although past treatment approaches had little effectiveness, we are delighted to report that science and technology have advanced to the point where we now have a doctor-performed medical protocol to efficiently treat stretch marks. To improve the appearance of stretch marks, we employ a Western-Eastern technique that combines a synergistic combination of a USA FDA-approved Israeli nano-fractional RF with Korean transdermal PDRN. Another technology we utilise in the clinic which has proven successful for most patients is Silicon Valley Technology – Sylfirm – pulsed needle radiofrequency.
Stretch mark removal treatment can be improved further with long-pulsed NDYAG laser and skin tightening treatments, as stretch marks frequently co-exist with sagging skin.
